The four bedrooms

Shared spaces

Living room, dining room, lawns

These are the spaces guests share. The kitchen is the caretaker's, which is why meals are looked after rather than left to you.

The living room with its leather sectional and brass chandelier, the dining nook and open shelves beyond
The living room fireplace, lit on a cold evening
The dining room, green banquettes along a wall hung with framed classic film posters
A green banquette booth by the window on the upper floor, set for a meal or a quiet cup of tea with the tea garden hills in view
The guest kitchenette, kettle and crockery ready for tea or coffee
A bench on the lawn facing the tea garden hills across a low wire fence

Amenities

  • Caretaker on site, 24x7

Someone is always at the property to help with breakfast, hot water, firewood or anything that needs sorting.

  • Breakfast included

The caretaker takes care of breakfast each morning. TODO: confirm breakfast options and any notice required before launch.

  • Lunch and dinner by delivery

Swiggy delivers to the property from most restaurants in town, and a few restaurants deliver directly. The caretaker is happy to help you order.

  • Kitchenette for tea and coffee

For heating food and making your own tea or coffee. The main kitchen is run by the caretaker and is not for guest use.

  • Electric fireplace in the living room

It genuinely warms the room, not just for the look of it.

  • Blower heater in every bedroom

  • Warm quilts on every bed

Ooty nights are cold whatever the month, so the quilts are heavy enough to actually need.

  • Hot water in every bathroom

  • Teak wood flooring throughout

  • Seven minutes from the centre of Ooty

Close enough that a forgotten charger or a dinner out is not a whole afternoon.

  • Power backup

    Hill-station outages are covered.

  • Wi-Fi

Mobile signal up here varies by carrier, so Wi-Fi is the reliable option.

  • Free on-site parking

  • Tea garden views to the south

  • Upper and lower lawns

The upper lawn sits by the top-floor rooms, the lower lawn by the ground-floor ones. Either way, there's grass to spread out on.

  • Balcony off the living room

Glass fenced. Please supervise children and keep off the railing.

  • Kids' play area

Climbing wall, rings, swing, saucer swing and rope course. Not a supervised playground, so adults need to be present.

  • Board games and foosball

House rules

Families and long stays, not bachelor groups
Villa Verde is set up for families and groups taking the house together, so we don't take bookings from bachelor groups. A solo traveller booking a room for their own staycation is always welcome.
No smoking on site
Smoking isn't permitted anywhere on the property, indoors or out on the lawns.
No pets
Pets aren't allowed, for the comfort of the other guests staying alongside you.
Shoes off indoors
The caretaker will point this out at check-in. It keeps the teak floors the way they are.
Before you come

What to bring

Nothing else to plan for. The caretaker will settle you in and walk you through the house when you arrive.

  • Warm layers and a jacket. Ooty nights are cold whatever the month.
  • Closed shoes if you plan to walk the hills.
  • Something for rain between June and September.
  • Socks you don't mind being seen in, since shoes come off at the door.
Worth knowing

A few gentle notes

Nothing to worry about, just a few small things worth knowing before you arrive, especially if you're bringing children.

The balcony
The living-room balcony is fenced with glass, and it's lovely with a cup of tea in hand. Just keep half an eye on little ones out there.
The fireplace
The living room fireplace is genuinely warming on a cold evening. Keep fabrics and curious hands a comfortable distance from it.
The bunk bed in Peacock
Peacock has a bunk bed with a latch on the upper level. Great fun for kids, just worth an adult's eye when they're climbing up or down.
The play area
The climbing wall, rings, swings and rope course are great fun for children, best enjoyed with an adult nearby rather than as an unsupervised playground.
Wildlife in the Nilgiris
Sightings are rare, much like anywhere else in these hills, but this is still the countryside. If something wanders close, admire it from a distance and let the caretaker know.
